Pastor Cyril A. Stevens describes the plight of those who are lost in a “horrible pit,” a place of terrifying noise and suffering due to eternal fire and eternal judgment. Stevens vividly portrays this state using graphic examples and argues that many attempt to ignore or drown out this truth with worldly distractions. However, the core message, drawn from Psalm 40, is one of hope: that the Lord hears the cries of those in the pit and lifts them out, placing their feet on solid ground and giving them a new song of praise.
