Rev. Cyril A. Stevens – Sermon 0075B recorded on July 29, 1979 teaching from Luke 11:35 – Take Heed Therefore.
Pastor Cyril A. Stevens argues that the only remedy for human suffering and spiritual stagnation is the intentional filling of the Holy Spirit. He distinguishes between the initial act of salvation and a subsequent, perpetual state of asking for divine empowerment, warning that without this, believers remain “carnal” and preoccupied with legalistic religious traditions. Using the metaphor of the eye as a lamp, Stevens explains that while the human spirit is the vessel, it remains dark until it is ignited by the supernatural grace of God. Pastor Stevens concludes with a passionate critique of modern intellectualism and denominational barriers, urging his listener to abandon spiritual pride and “break our hearts” before God to receive the true power and comfort of the Spirit.
